The Resounding Maybes existed in the minds of its members for years, though it would take a worldwide pandemic and quarantine to finally urge the project into corporeal form. Equal parts nervous energy, song craft and spacey atmospherics, guitarist/vocalist Patrick O'Connor and keyboardist/vocalist Savannah O'Connor write and perform indie pop songs with a shoegaze flavor that faintly echoes forbears of indie, dream pop, shoegaze and early alternative. The Resounding Maybes strike a balance between melodic heft and breezy tone, as pushed through a wind tunnel for maximum effect.

The recording of 'Sine Qua Non' took place over the course of a year during lock-down at the band's own Mystery Riff Studios, though the album's period of gestation was much longer. The Resounding Maybes began with a rough stylistic idea to recreate a musical atmosphere rarely heard in popular music since the late 80's and early 90's, at once slightly retro but with modern elements that create a timeless quality in the songs.
